The Summer Adventures Continue

Girls Camp

Back in February, Doreen was approached by Dee Wake and asked if she would like to be a tent mom at girls camp in August. Doreen didn't even hesitate. Of course she wants to go. Camping is right up her ally. Doreen and Lynette Kap were the tent moms to 9 wonderful girls. Unfortunately Jessie was away most of camp on her 4th year hike. Each of them had a fabulous time and got to spend the last day together.

Jessie hike to Mt. Pilchuck and then tried to get to the top of Gothic Basin but was in a slower group so didn't make it to the top. One of the first things Jessie told Doreen was that she didn't want to be the YCL (5th year) over the 4th year hike. About 10 hours laters Jessie had changed her mind and wants to go back and get to the top.

Long Beach

The kids wanted to go back to Long Beach so we did. We spent Kite Festival week camping at Long Beach. We missed it last year as we went to the Olympics so this year we made up for it.

I took the kids to Richland for dental appointments and then drove to Long Beach. It was a little longer than our traditional just over 3 hour drive. It was almost double! But the drive through the Columbia River Gorge and then from Portland to Seaside was beautiful. I had driven that often as a young girl but had forgotten how breathtaking it can be.

Jason and Steve joined us on Tuesday and that's when the party really started!

Jessie's birthday was on Wednesday and it seemed like we did a lot of fun things for her birthday, but really it just happened to be that her birthday was the day we picked to do these things. We rented a Surry and drove around Seaside, Oregon. We went zip lining (TOTALLY BLAST!) and we had yummy food.

Thursday we rented mopeds and drove all over town and I even stopped and let Jessie drive in the church parking lot! We were able to do this because there was a majority of licensed drivers this year. I also drove the go karts for the first time. I usually had babies or dogs, but this time I was able to drive. It was so much fun!

And of course we spend a lot of time on the beach, flying kites, watching kites be flown and having a BLAST! Jessie and Steve were even able to fly a prototype Revolution. Steve and Jason flew Brazilian Pipas and Chris and Matt were able to perfect their kite flying skills while I perfected my beach sitting and people watching skills.
